  • Coronavirus Symptoms Check Information

    Thu 10 Sep 2020

Check if you or your child has coronavirus symptoms

If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result.

    Main symptoms

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

    • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
    • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
    • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

What to do if you have symptoms

If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:

    1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
    2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.

Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.

  • *IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ON RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS* OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO FAKE NEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

    Sun 30 Aug 2020
*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ON RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS* OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO FAKE NEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA from Lancashire County Councils Director Of Public Health to County Councillor Mohammed Iqbal & Azhar Ali

I can confirm that it is neither national nor local policy to take kids into care if they show symptoms. This is a myth and I’d request your support please to reassure parents.

Schools are being sent test kits. If any child shows symptoms, they will be sent home with the test kit so that parents can take a sample swiftly and send it to the lab (instructions should be there with the kit). This is in addition to the community testing that is available.

The risk of severe infection in young children is very low. There are no specific restrictions on schools from reopening in Pendle.

As you know, every school has been working hard in preparing to welcome children back. In case of an incident our or outbreak, we have a well rehearsed process in place to support the schools and parents.

     I hope this is helpful.

     Have a nice day,

Sakthi Dr. Sakthi Karunanithi MBBS M.D. MPH FFPH Director of Public Health, Lancashire County Council

  • Message regarding the wider opening of school from Ms Ahmed

    Mon 08 Jun 2020
    MESSAGE REGARDING WIDER SCHOOL OPENING

    8 June 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to give you an update on the wider opening of school.

Today the director of Public Health England for Lancashire has recommended that schools in Lancashire DO NOT RE-OPEN MORE WIDELY FOR YR, Y1 AND Y6 CHILDREN FROM 15 JUNE so Walverden Primary School will still only be open for vulnerable children and children of key workers.

The reasons for the decision are;-

    • Lancashire and the North West have a high number of cases compared to the rest of the country.
    • Although the weekly death count in Lancashire is declining, this is not a consistent decline and, in recent weeks, there has been an increase.
    • It is widely reported that the ‘R’ value for the North West is above 1.
    • The local ‘track and trace’ needs to be properly embedded.

This will be reviewed again next Monday by the Governors and by Lancashire Authority as to whether it will be safe to open more widely on the 22 June. I will be in touch again if there is any further information to share.

Thankyou to all of you for being so supportive and continuing to work with us to help keep our community safe.

    Take care and stay safe,

    Ms Ahmed
