Our Science curriculum nurtures children's natural curiosity about the world around them and develops their understanding of key scientific concepts through practical investigation and enquiry. Beginning in the Early Years, children explore the natural world through topics such as seasons, life cycles, materials, plants, animals and space. As they progress through school, pupils build their knowledge across the three main areas of science: biology, chemistry and physics. They study a wide range of topics including animals and humans, plants, living things and their habitats, materials, forces, electricity, sound, light, rocks, evolution and the Earth in space. Throughout the curriculum, children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, carry out investigations and evaluate evidence, developing the skills of working scientifically.
Learning is designed to help pupils understand how science influences everyday life and the wider world, while promoting curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Opportunities to explore sustainability, environmental awareness and scientific enquiry help pupils develop an appreciation of the role science plays in shaping our future. By the time they leave primary school, children have developed a secure foundation of scientific knowledge and the confidence to investigate and explain the world around them.
