Walverden Primary School

Religious Education

Our Religious Education curriculum encourages children to explore beliefs, values and traditions while developing respect, understanding and curiosity about different faiths and worldviews. Using the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus, pupils learn about Christianity alongside a range of other religions including Islam, Judaism, Hindu Dharma, Sikhism and Buddhism. Throughout their time at school, children investigate important questions about faith, belonging, identity, morality and the meaning of life. They explore religious stories, celebrations, places of worship, sacred texts and the beliefs that guide people's actions and choices.

As pupils progress through the school, they are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, reflect on their own beliefs and values, and develop an appreciation of the diverse communities and traditions that make up modern Britain. Through discussion, enquiry and reflection, children learn to respect different viewpoints, think critically and understand how religion and belief can influence individuals and societies. Our Religious Education curriculum helps pupils become respectful, informed and open-minded members of the wider community.
